National City Bank, now a part of PNC, was honored at the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual luncheon on Jan. 21 as the recipient of the 2009 Family Friendly Award.  The award, a joint effort between the Chamber and the Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Council of Livingston County, was designed to recognize companies that encourage and enable employees to focus on the needs of their families and make family the number one priority in their lives.

Success in business is never automatic. And business success is not based on luck—although a little luck never hurts. It depends primarily on the owner's foresight and organization. Even then, of course, there are no guarantees. The latest statistics from the Small Business Administration (SBA) show that seven out of ten new employer firms last at least two years, and about half survive five years.

The Executive BBA is designed for students who have significant work experience in a business, healthcare, governmental or non-profit organization and who are looking to complete a baccalaureate degree for both professional and personal advancement.

UPDATE: You know that saying about one door closing and another opening? Before the Holiday Grill became Holiday Grill, it was Brunner's.

The Holiday Grill, located in the Promenade Mall on Grand River Avenue just east of downtown Howell, closed Monday. One day later, former Brunner's owners Angelo and Jeanne Karagiorgos and Sia Zavradino say they are returning to open for business in the same site again.

So you have decided to start a business. Maybe you have the next best idea and you're trying to figure out if it's viable or not. Or maybe you're out of work, or just fed up with your current job, and looking for an alternative. But not so fast my friend.

Unfortunately, many entrepreneurs fall victim to a number of common myths pertaining to entrepreneurship in America. According to Scott Shane, in his book entitled “The Illusions of Entrepreneurship,” America is not the land of opportunity—at least for new entrepreneurs.
