♦ About us

LivingstonTalk.com was started by two veteran Livingston County journalists — Buddy Moorehouse and Maria Stuart — after they were laid off from their jobs at the local newspaper.

The website was founded as a place for conversations like the ones we take part in around our dining room tables or in our favorite coffee shops and watering holes. These conversations are full of lively give-and-take on a variety of subjects, from professional sports to city hall to the White House to the latest community theater production and the street program in our neighborhood. These conversations — lively, respectful, fun, provocative, enlightening, informative, entertaining, and sometimes maddening — are both grass roots and global; the notion of who can write and publish on issues of common interest has been upended by the Internet. LivingstonTalk.com is both excited and honored to be part of the future of community journalism.

It used to be that covering life in a community was an activity only for those with the means required to publish, which included a printing plant and complicated distribution system. Today, bloggers (or citizen journalists as they are often referred to) regularly break news and blaze trails, writing about local issues, their various units of government, community events, and their lives. Technology has tossed the keys to the journalism kingdom to regular folks armed with laptops and cell phones who, in turn, reach out across the community to educate, inform, entertain and pull the heart strings of their friends and neighbors.

We hope you find LivingstonTalk to be such a place, and we welcome you to take part in the conversation, through your own blog and/or your interaction with other bloggers on this site. For more information on being a LivingstonTalk.com blogger, click here.
